A barn conversion and extension offering privacy and tranquillity on the edge of Guernsey’s St Peter Port town centre.
DLM aimed to create a stunning contemporary home on the outskirts of town that maximised the south-west-facing garden while retaining privacy in a built-up area.
Our team wanted to retain as much of the original structure as possible, so the granite basis and first-floor structure of the barn was retained, and enhanced with a new roof to replace the rotten one and increase the energy performance of the building.
The positioning of the building was vital with The Woodshed; we designed it to gain maximum natural light while maintaining a level of privacy not normally found in dense residential areas.
High granite boundary walls and a generous garden form a natural welcome to the property, so mirroring natural materials was a key component of the design. The specification of the property is extremely high, allowing for modern family living that subtly introduced hi-tech features alongside natural, sympathetic materials.
The Woodshed forms an oasis of urban living that is sustainable and environmentally friendly thanks to modern building techniques and advanced engineering.
